KPMG and Accelerate Okanagan Launch Scholarships

Two Venture Acceleration Program Scholarships are now available for current students and recent grads starting tech companies.

Accelerate Okanagan (AO) exists to offer mentorship, create connections, and bring the community together to help tech enabled businesses thrive.

Since 2011, the Venture Acceleration Program (VAP) has helped over 100 companies start and grow in the Okanagan. These VAP companies contribute to the 1.3 billion dollar tech industry that has been growing at a rate of 15% per year. As a result, Okanagan entrepreneurs and their teams have a huge positive impact on the growth and diversity of our communities.

You’ve probably heard the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”, the same can be said about an entrepreneur. As there are already many barriers to entering the world of entrepreneurship, Accelerate Okanagan and KPMG are joining forces to offer two six month Venture Acceleration Program scholarships.

The two VAP Scholarships will provide founders who are students, new graduates or in financial need with access to the resources needed to grow a tech company in the Okanagan. The scholarships will cover the full cost of a 6 month Venture Acceleration Program, so that the founder can focus on gaining access to support and opportunity. As part of this program, founders receive one-on-one mentorship from an Executive in Residence, gain access to resources and events, and will become a part of the growing local tech community in the Okanagan valley.

"The Venture Acceleration Program is like getting a crash course on business and has helped WTFast every step of the way," said Rob Bartlett, Founder and CEO of WTFast. "Being able to have mentors you can talk with and receive feedback from is invaluable. VAP helped us realize the many grant programs that are available allowing us to have a local team and grow the company locally."

  • Current student or recent graduate

  • Starting a technology focused or technology enabled company
