The UBCSUO is seeking a full-time General Manager for a 3 years term with an opportunity for renewal.  As the most senior employee of the UBCSUO, this position is responsible for managing the general business affairs of the students’ union as directed by the Board of Directors.  This individual will assist the Executive Committee and Board of Directors in the implementation of their directives and assist the Executive Committee in the performance of their duties.


The successful candidate will be responsible for the appropriate long-term planning and ensuring administrative business continuity for the UBCSUO including supervision of employees in a union environment.  In cooperation with the Vice-President Finance and Operations, the General Manager will ensure the long-term financial stability of the Students’ Union, assist with preparing and implementing budgets, and authorize expenses for the Student Union.  In addition to management and operational duties, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Board of Directors in its advocacy work, including campaigns implementation and outreach, regional coalition work, and government relations initiatives.

To be considered for this position the successful candidate will have at least 2-3 years of demonstrated experience leading the operation of an organization or business.  An individual with some education/knowledge in the financial field is preferred.  The successful candidate will have assisted in the development of policies and in interpreting Acts and Agreements.  Additionally, the successful candidate will have demonstrated experience successfully providing support in a public way for a cause, a not-for-profit activity, or other such entity.


Sound judgment, analytical and decision-making skills are required.  The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and oral and understand and practice cultural sensitivity needed when working in an environment of diverse peoples.


This position will remain open until filled however a review and shortlist of candidates will commence on April 19, 2018.

Salary: $60,000.00 to $85,000.00 /year
