The UX Design Team

As a department and company, we look to our team of UX Researchers, Interaction Designers, UX Architects and Visual Designers to use their insight, empathy and intuition to support the product team to envision how people should experience our products and bring that vision to life with their passion, skills and talents.

As a design group, we love to service teams and create meaningful experiences that are intuitive, beautiful, and accessible, bringing real value to real people throughout a products lifecycle. 

Position Summary:

QHR is seeking a UI Visual Designer to work closely with our UX Architect, Product Team and Development Team to visually shape a new and exciting corporate digital Health & Wellness product for a leading Canadian retail brand. We look to our Visual Designers to present complex interactions in a simple, beautiful and elegant user interface, that inspires, delights, engages and excites our user to achieve their goals while allowing the products brand to stand out. 

This UI Visual Designer will also play a key role in shaping and refining the experience through feedback and user testing sessions.

The UI Visual Designer will also be responsible for supporting the UX Architect’s documentation with outputs such as high-fidelity designs, animation examples and associated visual information and assets needed to support's the Product and Development teams in producing a market leading user experience. 

The UI Visual Designer will work as part of our expanding UX Design Team based in Toronto. They will help form the design for a new and exciting corporate digital Health & Wellness product for a leading Canadian retail brand. If you love health apps that help people get fit, eat better, and connect digitally with health experts, then this job could be for you. This designer will need to have the experience and all the skills to help turn the company’s insights into a beautifully designed product, that will satisfy a premium Canadian Brand.

About You

    You are a native mobile UI Design specialist that has a portfolio that stands out.
    Your confidence, experience and capacity allow you to take on large market products and brand aspirations. 
    You have experience working alongside product managers, product owners, and business analysts to help bring clarity from the products core value proposition to improve the products experience.
    You embrace empathy and naturally think and talk from the perspective of the user in the solutions you seek and provide.
    As a well-rounded mobile specialist, you love working in your world of Android and IOS. You are up-to-date with all the current related UI standard practices and trends, and you use this knowledge to shape designs that make contextual sense to the user. 
    You know your value, and you know how to speak in to the area of UI design and production on behalf of the team with the wider group of stakeholders
    As a Visual Designer, you love to create designs that takes complex tasks and transform them into simple, intuitive, accessible, and easy-to-use designs that follow mobile standard practices. 
    You love to focus on pixel perfect attention to detail. 
    Your portfolio has examples of apps that highlights your visual talent with iconography, typography, color, space, layout and motion that only exists to help the users successfully navigate their products.
    You can work collaboratively with the UX Architect to help the users successfully navigate our products experience.
    You are used to working with developers and you know how to support them through their development process with any required assets.
    The seasoned and commercial designer in you will possess the production skills and techniques needed to create work to gain feedback from stakeholders and user testing sessions and support the developers through the build process. 
    You understand the value of UI patterns. You have experience of designing apps that follow strong UX/UI consistency, and this is supported thought a well-maintained design system.
    As you progress through the products design lifecycle you will naturally think about how to utilize and evolve the design principles, form, and maintain interactive consistency through UI patterns. 
    You have experience at decoding user feedback and insights sessions to refine the UI.
    You naturally seek satisfaction by hitting deadlines and knowing when to be creative and when to be practical. The idea of project momentum should resonate with you and you take full ownership of your work.  
    You are up-to-date with the latest design tools that support cleaner work flow. Tools such as Confluence, Jira, Adobe Creative Cloud, Sketch, In-vision, Axure, Aftereffects and Zeplin. 
    You have experience working in an agile environment, planning, and delivering your work in sprint-based cycles.
    You have a great attitude that thrives on openness and you’re always open to feedback from design leadership, team members and stakeholders. Work as a team player, come together with other key skills to form the core design, support the team with the UI responsibilities and be ego free.

Essential Functions:

    Work in tools such as sketch to visually design the user’s interfaces for design concepts, high fidelity screens and prototypes to create leading human-centered products.
    Visually design the products navigation throughout the user’s interactions.
    Create prototypes to the team and use feedback to direct interactions within the product.
    Animate the UI interactions and screen transitions with motion design.
    Build and maintain UI libraries to insure experience constancy and help speed up the design and development process 
    Promote and watch user testing sessions. Decode user challenges and proactively use these learnings to influence the products design principles and direct new features and improvements moving forwards.
    Owns the UI by supporting the UX documentation that validates internal design alignment and ensures that the designs are built to a high level.
    Confident in making the right decisions to understand mobile features and requirements, costs, quality and time tradeoffs.
    Effectively communicate and support the development team to ensure implementation details and interactions are met
    Contribute to an innovative and principled design culture across the whole product team
    Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders


    Proven and relevant 5+ year(s) experience as a rounded and robust UI Designer or similar.
    Experience working in corporate environment as well as startups is an asset
